INITIATIVES

Catholic
Student
Leadership

Within my school board, the TCDSB, we have our own Catholic Student Leadership Impact Team or CSLIT for short. This team is filled with passionate student leaders trying to make a positive difference. We often do things such as plan student-run events to donate to the Angel Foundation of Learning, teach other students on what it means to be leaders, promote equality and try to make the lives of the students within our school board better. There are subcommittees of CSLIT which deals with a specific aspect of it which students can choose to join or a student can just attend a general assembly, which will often include a guest speaker and encourage to speak out on the problems of the school board such as homophobia in students and accessibility in schools. I am apart six out of  seven of CSLIT's subcommittees. The six committees are Social Affairs, Equity, Public Relations, Faith, Angel Foundation of Learning and Social Justice. Social Affairs deal with planning events to raise money for charities that we are passionate about. We have planned events such as the CSLIT Gala, movie nights, Christmas socials and CSLIT dances. Equity is a committee which tries to help minorities in their schools to have a better school experience through educating people. So far, equity has done events such as yearly Inclusion and Belonging retreats, which assists with the LGBT+ community and we're currently planning a gala for women's rights and a trip to a residential school for students so that they can see what indigenous people felt firsthand.  Public Relations is about promoting CSLIT and its events but it also deals with making videos on important topics with the TCDSB. Currently, the public relations team is working on multiple videos discussing mental health and suicide. Faith is about, well, faith but we also do sandwich drives for the homeless withing Toronto. Social Justice deals with world problems and the injustices of the world. We try to teach others why acknowledging these problems is an important thing and how to make a difference. So far Social Justice is partnering up with Equity to do the Break the Glass Gala for women's rights and the trip to a residential school. The Angel Foundation of Learning deals with hosting charity events to raise money for the actual Angel Foundation of learning, a charity that helps improve the lives of students within the TCDSB.

Mind Matters

Mind Matters is a initiative that I helped start when the Idea was brought to light by another Chaminade student, Vincent Nguyen. This initiative deals with mental health and art, clashing the two to help spread awareness about mental health, get rid of its stigma and raise money for charities regarding mental health. Though there has been no official event done by Mind Matters due to it being made in late 2017, there are many things that we want to do in 2018. The Mind Matters team is currently planning a multitude of events such as a fashion show, a talent show, an art gallery,
